Between June 15 and 19, 2026, the National Environmental Guard conducted a large-scale control operation on high-risk routes in Romania, in collaboration with the Border Police, the Romanian Police, and the Customs Authority. Using the mobile X-ray scanner Roboscan for the first time, 4,091 trucks were checked, resulting in the seizure of nearly 100,000 kilograms of waste. This equipment allows for the rapid identification of illegal transports, including those that disguise waste as personal goods.
The operation's results include 99,790 kg of waste stopped at the country's entry, 20,440 kg stopped from export, and administrative fines amounting to 60,000 lei. The targeted transports included used tires, electronic waste, and textiles, and the operation underscores the authorities' commitment to preventing illegal waste transfers, in the context of Romania's accession to the Schengen Area. The National Environmental Guard will continue these checks to ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
