Diana Buzoianu, the interim Minister of the Environment, announced on Tuesday that a control carried out by the Forestry Guard from Timișoara revealed the disappearance of approximately 250,000 saplings that were supposed to be planted in forests in the coming years. The forestry staff responsible for managing the nurseries was aware of the lack of saplings but continued to report their existence in documents, reimbursing maintenance work for non-existent crops. The estimated damage amounts to 77,000 lei.
The Forestry Guard has notified the criminal authorities. The Minister emphasized that the Romsilva reform will introduce strict performance criteria for the heads of districts, and those who do not meet these criteria will be dismissed. Buzoianu congratulated the Forestry Guard for uncovering this case of fraud.
