Economy Minister Irineu Darău has notified the National Anticorruption Directorate after the Control Body found that 40,605 bilingual albums about the Merry Cemetery in Săpânța, ordered in 2006 by the National Tourism Authority, never reached the institution’s warehouses. The contract, worth more than 2.6 million lei, was paid in full by the state.
Of the 75,000 albums ordered, the authorities received only 34,395 copies. The remainder, valued at more than 1.4 million lei, stayed with the private company that printed them. According to the minister, the company subsequently entered insolvency or bankruptcy, and the situation was not clarified. Some of the albums are still being sold online for 60 lei apiece.
The checks also found that tourism materials worth more than four million lei had been stored for years without proper records. Some of them were severely damaged in January 2026 following water leaks. The Court of Accounts had flagged the issue as early as 2017, but the measures established by January 2018 were not implemented. The minister requested an inventory of the stocks, the correction of accounting records, and the establishment of clear handover and receipt procedures.
What is the source for the 40,605 missing albums? What are the exact dates of the contract and the Control Body findings? The item says some albums are still sold online; which retailer or listing shows the 60 lei price? Are “insolvency or bankruptcy” and the January 2026 water damage verified facts or claims in the minister’s statement? What documentation supports the claim that the remaining albums were valued at more than 1.4 million lei, and is the 2.6 million lei contract value including VAT?,Sources
