The Veterinary Health Directorate of Iași has confirmed an outbreak of sheep pox on a farm with 600 sheep in the locality of Popești, placing the farm under veterinary-sanitary restriction. The disease, which is extremely contagious for sheep, does not transmit to humans. The suspicion of disease was reported by the owner and the veterinarian after the appearance of dead sheep. A DSV team examined the animals and decided to prohibit their movement.
The prefect of Iași, Constantin Dolachi, announced the culling under official control of the affected animals to prevent the spread of the virus. Protection and surveillance zones have been established, and fairs and sales of meat, milk, and wool are prohibited.
Experts emphasize the importance of adhering to biosecurity measures to limit the impact on the livestock sector. DSVSA Iași will monitor the situation and inform the public about developments.
