As part of 'Operation Jupiter', the police in Gorj conducted five searches at the homes and offices of individuals involved in a network of cloned news websites. This network stole the identity of well-known publications, republishing articles without permission and without citing the source, in order to profit from online traffic.
The main suspect, a 36-year-old from Târgu Jiu, allegedly managed approximately 120 domains, including știridingorj.ro and știridinvaslui.ro, using a complex mechanism of 'mirror sites'. The criminal activity was carried out by automatically taking and republishing content, thus violating copyright rights. The police are investigating the crimes under Law no. 8/1996 on copyright and related rights. This action highlights the authorities' efforts to combat online piracy and protect intellectual property.
