President Nicușor Dan explained, in an interview on Radio Romania Actualități, why Romania will not yet join the Peace Council, led by Donald Trump. He emphasized that joining could violate the country's international commitments to the European Union, considering that the organization has a charter that contradicts these obligations. Romania has responsibilities related to sanctions and cannot sign agreements that could lead to their violation, according to the head of state. Additionally, Nicușor Dan mentioned that Romania will participate in the first meeting of the Council as an observer, which will allow it to contribute to discussions without being bound by the organization's decisions. He highlighted the importance of Romania's participation in the context of stabilizing the Middle East, especially in discussions about Gaza. The president confirmed that he had consultations with other European capitals before deciding on participation.
