Nicuşor Dan, about the detention of Călin Georgescu: “It has nothing to do with the 2024 elections. It concerns an accusation of fraud; DIICOT should clarify all the facts”

President Nicușor Dan declared on Tuesday, in New York, that the detention of former presidential election candidate Călin Georgescu is unrelated to the 2024 election, according to information presented by DIICOT. The head of state specified that, based on the prosecutors’ statement, the case concerns an accusation of fraud.

Nicușor Dan emphasized that DIICOT has the duty and responsibility to clarify all the facts in the case file. He added that the authorities must respect the presumption of innocence throughout the judicial proceedings.

”What I also saw from DIICOT’s statement has nothing to do with the elections in this case file; it has nothing to do with the 2024 election. It concerns an accusation of fraud, if I correctly understood the legal classification, and obviously it is DIICOT’s duty and responsibility to clarify all the facts, and obviously we respect the presumption of innocence. That is all I can say,” the head of state commented.
