President Nicușor Dan informed Parliament about the approval of the entry and stationing of NATO's Allied Reaction Force (ARF) in Romania, at the proposal of the Prime Minister, after consulting the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT). This decision allows the deployment of the ARF on national territory in the event of a major security crisis that could affect the sovereignty of Romania.
The ARF, a multinational strategic capability, can be deployed within a maximum of 10 days to respond to threats. Starting from July 2024, the ARF will replace NATO's Response Force (NRF) as the main force package. The President emphasized the importance of preparing national measures for the reception of the ARF, which must be approved in advance, according to current legislation. The Minister of Defense has also been mandated to manage any changes to the structure of the ARF based on NATO's planning for 2026.
