President Nicușor Dan announced on Friday that a drone entered Romanian airspace and was shot down by a Romanian pilot.
It was shot down around 11:00 AM.
"It was shot down by a Romanian pilot, from an F-16 aircraft. The area was uninhabited. There are teams from the institutions investigating," the head of state declared.
Earlier, the Buzău Inspectorate for Emergency Situations reported on Friday that a Ro Alert message was issued for an extensive area in southeastern Romania, which includes Buzău County.
"Possible drone in the Buzău County area in a field zone," ISU Buzău specified.
Also on Friday, residents of Brăila and Galați received a RO-ALERT message warning them about the possibility of objects falling from the airspace and advising them to take shelter.
