Designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu announced on Tuesday, after two days of consultations with parliamentary parties, that he will submit the government program and list of ministers to Parliament on Thursday. He said he is considering all possible formulas for forming the Executive, with the aim of installing a stable Government capable of working for citizens.
Niculescu said dialogue with the parties remains open and thanked the political formations and parliamentary groups for the proposals they submitted. The designated Prime Minister maintained that Romania needs political responsibility so that the new Government can be installed quickly.
After talks with unaffiliated lawmakers, Niculescu said that a political Government, a hybrid one made up of political ministers and technocrats, or a technocratic Executive remain under consideration. He said that, in the case of the last option, he already has a list of ministers that he could present as early as Wednesday.
The announcement comes amid negotiations over support for the future Government. According to sources, President Nicușor Dan could present the decree dissolving Parliament and trigger snap elections if the parties fail to reach a transparent agreement on Thursday to support the Niculescu Cabinet.
