The Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Irineu Darău, announced on Facebook the update of the regulations for the profession of tour guide, after more than 20 years. These changes are essential, as tour guides represent Romania in front of tourists.
Among the novelties is the abandonment of cardboard licenses in favor of modern cards with QR codes, which are safer and easier to verify. Additionally, the professional categories have been clarified: 'local guide' becomes 'internal guide', while 'national guide' becomes 'international guide'. The changes also allow citizens from outside the European Union to legally work as tour guides, removing an existing barrier. The sanctions system will be updated to reflect current economic realities. Currently, Romania has nearly 9,000 active guides, and the field requires greater professionalization and digitalization.
