Nati Meir, at the age of 71, a former candidate for the Presidency of Romania and deputy, has requested conditional release from Jilava Prison, where he is serving an 11-year sentence for seven offenses, including fraud and influence peddling. The Sector 4 Court rejected the request on July 8, considering that the time spent in detention is insufficient given the severity of the crimes and the damage caused.

Although the prison commission recommended release, the court decided that the health issues raised by the defense do not constitute a valid reason for release. Nati Meir has appealed the decision, and the case has been registered at the Ilfov Tribunal. Meir was convicted of fraud, influence peddling, and bribery, being accused of promising jobs in Israel and demanding large sums of money for interventions in justice. He was also handed over to Romanian authorities from Greece, where he was located after the issuance of a European arrest warrant.
