Representatives of the Ministry of National Defense declared that the SAFE program represents an opportunity to modernize the Romanian Army, equipping it with efficient combat systems. This is a strategic response from the European Union to strengthen the defense of the continent. The Ministry is currently running 21 equipping projects, of which eight are dedicated to anti-drone systems. The SAFE program aims for rapid acquisitions and access to modern technology, including assault weapons and radars.

The dispute between Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu arose regarding the management of the program, with Bolojan stating that the scheme was established during Ciolacu's mandate. Ciolacu contradicted this statement, claiming that decisions were made under the current government. The SAFE program is considered essential for national security and the modernization of the Romanian armed forces.
