The general mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, stated that ridesharing services represent unfair competition for public transport in the capital, requesting that municipalities have the right to regulate these services locally.

During a meeting with mayors from Ilfov, Ciucu emphasized that current regulations have been influenced by a "very strong lobby" made by ridesharing companies in Parliament, which has prevented local authorities from establishing their own rules. Although he also uses these services, Ciucu highlighted the low fares of ridesharing as a factor affecting public transport.

He compared the situation in Bucharest with other European capitals, emphasizing that regulation should be a local competence. The mayor also criticized the fact that ridesharing vehicles from other localities can operate in Bucharest, while Bucharest drivers cannot provide services in other cities. Ciucu anticipated that his statements would attract reactions from public affairs companies that defend the interests of ridesharing.
