On Monday morning, a major outage of Amazon Web Services (AWS) led to the inaccessibility of dozens of popular applications, including Snapchat, Duolingo, and Roblox. AWS, which manages a third of cloud services globally, reported operational issues in the US-EAST-1 region, affecting other regions as well. Snapchat users reported over 5,000 issues on the Downdetector portal.
Among the affected services are Amazon, Alexa, Fortnite, as well as backup platforms activated by The Associated Press agency. AWS engineers are working to identify and resolve the issue. AWS is essential for the functioning of the internet, with revenues exceeding $107 billion and a complex infrastructure that supports a large part of the global digital economy.
