A Google Cloud services outage affected dozens of websites and apps on Tuesday, including banking platforms, delivery services and online retailers in the UK. The companies affected include Revolut, Lloyds Bank, HSBC and DPD, while users also reported problems accessing the property platform Rightmove.
Google said it was investigating the incident, which was localized to the European “europe-west2” region associated with London. According to the company, the problem began on Monday, while the first difficulties were reported on Tuesday morning, after 07:00 local time.
Thousands of users reported outages on Downdetector, although it is unclear whether all the problems have the same cause. Customers of some banks experienced difficulties using mobile apps, making payments and accessing online services.
Revolut confirmed the incident and said that customers’ money and data were safe. Lloyds Bank said authentication was working, but some online services were affected. Similar problems were reported by customers of Halifax and Bank of Scotland.
