Before the recently reported outage, Revolut confirmed that it had been affected by cyber incidents involving the exposure of data belonging to European customers: in one case, cybercriminals demanded a ransom of 3 million dollars after allegedly obtaining the data of approximately 680 customers, according to a post that appeared on the dark web and investigations opened by Italian authorities.
Revolut also transmitted sensitive data to an unauthorized third party following fraudulent requests from an email domain attributed to a legitimate government agency. In that context, the company stated that neither its systems nor its customers’ funds had been affected.
