Luca Protopopescu, a talented 9-year-old chess player, made a sensation at the 'Chess Festival' in Marseille, playing 12 games simultaneously. The son of Romanian parents in France, he is considered one of the greatest hopes of French chess. In April, Luca became the youngest player in history to surpass the 2200 ELO rating threshold, breaking the previous record by nearly 100 days.
The ELO rating reflects the abilities of the players, and reaching the 2200 threshold is a significant achievement. Luca is the European youth vice-champion in 2023 in the Under 8 category and dreams of becoming a Grandmaster. His mother, Andreea Protopopescu, stated that the family will support him in any choice he makes, emphasizing the importance of passion in his career.
