ANCOM announced that, starting from January 1, 2026, users of mobile services will benefit from lower roaming rates, both in the European Economic Area (EEA) and in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The surcharges for mobile data will be significantly reduced, capped at a maximum of 1.33 euros/GB (1.10 euros excluding VAT), compared to previous rates that could exceed 8,000 euros/GB. The 'Roaming like at home' system will allow users to make calls, send messages, and use mobile internet under the same conditions as in their home country, without major additional costs.
Communication service providers will be obliged to inform customers about the new usage conditions in Moldova and Ukraine. In the EEA, the surcharge for exceeded data will decrease to 1 euro/GB in 2027. ANCOM will provide an online widget for estimating the volume of usable data without surcharge, and providers will need to notify customers about the available data volume while roaming.
