Lia Olguța Vasilescu, mayor of the municipality of Craiova and a PSD leader, says that local taxes and duties will not be able to be calculated based on market value from January 1, 2027. She made the statement on Antena 3 CNN, amid discussions about the tax reform undertaken under the NRRP.

The mayor says that applying the new formula depends on the completion of the E-Proprietate application, an NRRP milestone intended to assess properties. Even if the application were ready in 2027, Vasilescu says the deadline would be too late for setting taxes, as they must be approved by local councils by the end of 2026. She noted that several localities have already begun public consultations on the taxes applicable for 2027.

Vasilescu says Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare stated during parliamentary hearings that the formula would not be applied in 2027. The mayor of Craiova also criticized Romania’s negotiations on the NRRP, saying that the commitments undertaken could lead to significant tax increases. The legal framework exists, she says, but its actual implementation would be impossible next year.
