Currently, parents must take their vacation leave or request time off from work to be present at the opening ceremony of the school year, which is an emotional moment for both children and them. The PSD supports the idea that this measure has significant emotional and social value.

The legislative proposal aims to grant the first day of the school year for preschool, primary, and secondary education as a day off, upon request, for parents. If the project is approved, parents could benefit from this day off starting in September 2026, thus facilitating their participation in the school year opening events.
