Laura Gherasim, chair of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuses, visited Rahova Penitentiary to talk to Cezar Avramuta, who has been on hunger strike for 18 days because of the annulment of the 2024 presidential elections. The MP announced that she would request that the cells be equipped with fans, given the heatwave and overcrowding. Ms. Avrammuță raised concerns about the violation of fundamental rights and the lack of civil society response. Gherasim highlighted the problems of the prison system and will organize a public debate on 30 September for urgent solutions.
