Starting tomorrow, the Administration of Lakes, Parks and Recreation of Bucharest will begin the process of draining Lake Herăstrău, which will last until June 8, when the machinery will enter the area.
The authorities announce the relocation of the fauna in the area, with the frogs being moved to Lake Floreasca, and the fish transferred to other lakes as the water is evacuated. The Capital City Hall emphasized that the works are necessary to secure the banks, some of which have already collapsed.
The works include cleaning the lake basin, which is silted up, and reinforcing the banks, aiming to ensure a durability of 100 years. Mayor Ciprian Ciucu also announced that efforts will be made to restore Herăstrău Park, including the launch of an integrated master plan for the modernization and protection of the park's landscape ensemble.
