On July 31, 2024, a 64-year-old man was killed in the backyard of his home in the village of Devesel, Chilia commune, by an unknown individual who entered the yard. After a conflict with the victim, the attacker used an axe to hit him several times. The perpetrator fled from the scene but was later caught by police in a nearby forest, where he was injured during a confrontation. He was restrained and taken to hospital for treatment.
