The Capital City Hall has put forward a project that could eliminate, starting May 1, the free access of journalists to cultural institutions and public parks in Bucharest. The project aims to repeal Decision 305/2016, which provided these facilities, on the grounds that the number of beneficiaries has significantly increased, putting pressure on the city's infrastructure. Mayor Ciprian Ciucu emphasized that maintaining unlimited free access affects the general public's access and decreases the turnover rate of vehicles in crowded areas.
He mentioned that the number of journalists benefiting from exemptions is far too high in relation to the available spaces, proposing a limitation on the number of exemptions for newsrooms. This measure could affect approximately 6,000 journalists in Bucharest.
