The border police at Nădlac detained a 32-year-old Italian citizen who attempted to introduce 31 kilograms of cannabis into Romania. The drugs were hidden in the suitcases with which the man was traveling on the route from Spain to Romania. The incident occurred on March 23, 2026, when the police caught the defendant in the act, a passenger on an international flight. The cannabis, intended for sale, was packaged in 31 bags. Prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism ordered his detention for international and domestic drug trafficking. The judge for rights and freedoms at the Arad Tribunal decided to place the defendant in preventive detention for 30 days.
