The Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies approved, on Wednesday, the request of the parliamentary groups AUR, S.O.S. Romania and POT to establish an inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances, causes, and responsibilities related to the explosion in the building on Calea Rahovei, Bucharest. The opposition believes that such a committee is necessary to address the systemic deficiencies of public institutions, which the criminal investigation cannot tackle.
Parliamentarians emphasize the importance of transparency in the actions of the authorities, considering the precedent of tragedies such as Colectiv and Crevedia, which highlighted the tendency to cover up responsibilities. They assert that the explosion is not an isolated incident, but reflects a crisis of accountability in state institutions, affecting citizens' trust in public safety.
