The annual inflation rate in the European Union decreased slightly in December 2025, reaching 2.3%. Romania continues to have the highest inflation, with an annual price increase of 8.6%, unchanged from November. The lowest inflation rates in the EU were in Cyprus (0.1%), France (0.7%), and Italy (1.2%). Compared to November, inflation decreased in 18 member states, remained constant in three, including Romania, and increased in two. In the eurozone, inflation dropped to 1.9%, below the target of the European Central Bank.
In Romania, the National Institute of Statistics reported an inflation rate of 9.69% in December, with significant price increases in services (11%) and non-food goods (10.48%). The National Bank of Romania revised its inflation forecast for the end of 2025 to 9.6% and anticipates a decrease to 3.7% by the end of 2026.
