In February 2026, the number of active mandatory home insurance policies (PAD) increased by 2.97%, reaching approximately 2.39 million, compared to 2.32 million in the same month of the previous year, according to statistics from the Natural Disaster Insurance Pool (PAID). Compared to the previous month, the increase was 0.04%. At the end of February, 70.9% of active policies were concluded in urban areas, while 29.2% were in rural areas. The majority of policies, 94.3%, target type A homes, while 5.7% target type B homes. By regions, Transylvania, Muntenia, and Bucharest have the most active policies, while Maramureș and Bukovina have the fewest. PAID has been issuing these insurances since 2010, aiming to insure homes against the risks of earthquakes, floods, and landslides. The cost of PAD policies is 130 lei for type A homes and 50 euros for type B.
