Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized that, within the current coalition, no party has the critical mass necessary to solve Romania's economic problems, but has enough power to block the necessary measures. He highlighted the importance of political support for implementing reforms, mentioning that Romania is facing an alarming budget deficit, in which a large part of the expenses is allocated to paying interest on accumulated debts.
Bolojan estimated that next year, interest will amount to approximately 12 billion euros, which constitutes a significant burden on the budget. He stressed the need to raise awareness of this situation among political leaders and warned that, without corrective measures, the country's economic prospects will be affected. The Prime Minister concluded that the government has become more of a debt payment agency than a factor for economic development.
