Previously, Inter IKEA Group rejected Greenpeace Romania’s accusations regarding the exploitation of a “virgin” forest in the Poiana Ruscă Mountains, following a protest organized in front of the IKEA Pallady store in Bucharest. The company stated that the work took place in an area designated for timber production, in compartment 37 of a Natura 2000 site, and that the checks were carried out through a field visit, discussions with the supplier, and assessments against Natura 2000 rules and Forest Stewardship Council requirements.
In parallel, IKEA also announced commercial initiatives: it is testing the online buyback of used furniture in Spain and Portugal, while in the United Kingdom it launched a platform for selling and buying second-hand IKEA products, with plans to introduce a buyer protection fee.
