Potra's son and grandson placed under house arrest
Potra's son and grandson will wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. The decision is final.
The supreme court analyzed on Monday the appeal of Horațiu Potra, his son Dorian, and his grandson Alexandru, against the maintenance of preventive arrest, a decision made by the Bucharest Court of Appeal on January 9.
Horațiu Potra argued that he and his family are the only defendants in the attempted coup case who have not been released, citing his cooperation with investigators by accepting extradition from Dubai. However, the judges were not convinced by his arguments.
Potra is accused of involvement in subversive activities, including recruiting and training paramilitary forces, following a clandestine meeting with Georgescu after the cancellation of the 2024 presidential elections. He is part of a larger group accused of serious crimes aimed at destabilizing Romania.
Horațiu Potra was arrested on November 21, 2025, for attempting to commit actions against the constitutional order and other crimes related to weapons and explosives. He was brought from Dubai, where he was caught in September, without an extradition agreement.
