The High Court of Cassation and Justice decided, on Wednesday, to maintain the preventive arrest for Horaţiu Potra, accused of actions against the constitutional order.
His appeal was dismissed as unfounded, and the court ordered the defendant to pay court costs. Potra, caught in Dubai in September 2025, was brought to Romania in November 2025. He is involved in a case alongside Călin Georgescu and 20 other defendants, accused of plans to destabilize Romania. Investigators claim that, after the cancellation of the presidential elections in 2024, Potra discussed with Georgescu a plan for violent actions to derail peaceful protests. They were found in possession of weapons and dangerous materials, aimed at creating a state of danger to the constitutional order. Prosecutors concluded that their actions endangered national security.
