Meteorologists have issued a level four out of five warning regarding the risk of avalanches at altitudes above 1,800 meters in the Făgăraș, Bucegi, Țarcu, and Godeanu mountains, where the snow layer has reached record values, such as 160 cm at the Omu Peak. The mountain rescue team from Sibiu has recommended that tourists avoid traveling in high mountain areas, especially at Bâlea Lake, due to dangerous conditions. Recently, an avalanche considered one of the largest in the last five years occurred in this area, caused by snow accumulation and wind. Salvamont Sibiu emphasized the importance of proper equipment and experience in such conditions. Access to Bâlea Lake is via DN 7C, and the cable car operates only in favorable weather conditions.
