This controlled emptying, scheduled to be completed on February 28, 2026, is essential for the evaluation and modernization of the Vidraru dam, which has been in operation since 1966. The operation will enable the use of modern technology and ensure more efficient energy production for the next 40 years. The contract for the €188 million retrofitting was signed in July 2024.
