Border police found 50 cartridges of caliber 22 LR hidden in a bag of sweets on a bus on the Moldova - Italy route.

At the Albița Border Crossing Point, border police, together with customs officers, discovered 50 unpunctured cartridges, caliber 22 LR, hidden in a bag of sweets, in a bus that was making a regular trip from the Republic of Moldova to Italy. The bus was driven by a Moldovan citizen, who stated that he had taken the package to deliver it to a person in Italy, without knowing its contents.

The detailed control, based on a risk profile, led to the identification of the ammunition. Since the driver did not have the necessary documents for the transport of weapons, both he and the bus were subjected to additional checks. A 31-year-old Moldovan woman was identified as the one who took the package. Authorities seized the ammunition and initiated investigations for non-compliance with the weapons and ammunition regime, as well as for attempted qualified smuggling, with the support of specialists from the Vaslui Police Inspectorate and other units.
