The Public Health Directorate (DSP) Alba has announced an outbreak of hepatitis A in the Lumea Nouă neighborhood of Alba Iulia, with eight confirmed cases, of which seven are children aged between 0 and 14 years.

The executive director of DSP Alba, Alexandru Sinea, specified that two cases were identified in children aged 0-4 years, two in those aged 5-8 years, and three in children aged 10-14 years. Following the epidemiological investigation, seven contacts have been identified who will be vaccinated on Friday, and DSP will provide the necessary vaccine doses for any potential new cases.

The last hepatitis A outbreak publicized by DSP in Alba was in 2018, in a vulnerable community in the Unirea commune. The incubation period of the virus is 45 days.
