The first 25 specimens of the griffon vulture were brought from Spain and transferred to an acclimatization aviary near the commune of Rucăr, Argeș County. This initiative is part of a program to reintroduce the species in Romania, where the griffon vulture disappeared over 70 years ago. The birds, which are young and will form the core of the future population in the Făgăraș Mountains, were examined by veterinarians to ensure they are healthy after transport. The aviary, located at an altitude of 1,150 meters, has a robust structure and is equipped with a video monitoring system.

The reintroduction of the griffon vulture is essential for the health of the ecosystem, as this scavenger species contributes to environmental cleanliness by consuming dead animals, thus preventing the spread of diseases. Griffon vultures are distinguished by their white head and light beige plumage, having a wingspan of up to 2.8 meters. This action highlights the importance of partnerships in nature conservation and the reconstruction of the natural landscape in Romania.
