Prime Minister Luca Niculescu announced on Thursday that the Government will make a decision at Friday’s meeting to unblock the funding needed for the healthcare system. The measure concerns urgent budget adjustments for priority areas, so that medical staff and patients do not encounter difficulties in providing care and treatments.
The statement was made at the handover event for the new Tuberculosis Diagnostic, Treatment and Research Center to the “Marius Nasta” National Institute of Pneumophthisiology. The prime minister said that healthcare represents a fundamental element of Romania’s development, even in the context of budgetary constraints and the difficult period at Victoria Palace.
Niculescu stated that the decision had been discussed with PSD President Sorin Grindeanu and Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare. Subsequently, the Government is to present the country’s financial and budgetary situation and prepare a new budget adjustment based on updated data.
The prime minister stressed that funding for hospitals, medical services, and the training of healthcare personnel must be viewed as a long-term investment, not merely as an expense.
