Diana Buzoianu, the Minister of the Environment, announced that the National Environmental Guard (GNM) will use an X-ray scanner, purchased for 2 million euros from the PNRR, to identify trucks entering Romania with illegal waste.
The scanner has already been tested and will be used in border areas to stop the illegal import of waste, starting this week. Although it will not be able to check all trucks, this modern equipment represents a significant step in the fight against waste mafia. Buzoianu emphasized that, in the last month, GNM has carried out 750 actions using the modern equipment purchased through PNRR. The minister mentioned that the necessary legislative norms were adopted quickly to support these initiatives, highlighting the commitment to effectively combat illegal waste imports and environmental crime.
