General Gheorghiță Vlad, head of the Defense Staff, reacted on social media, declaring himself innocent in the face of the accusations made by DNA prosecutors. He emphasized that the decision to bring charges comes in a complex national context and considered the timing of the accusations to be "curious".

The general stated that he had no involvement in corrupt activities and that he would cooperate with prosecutors to clarify the situation. The DNA announced that it has begun criminal proceedings against him, accusing him of complicity in usurpation of function, in connection with a request made to the Ministry of Education for additional budget places for the National University of Physical Education and Sport. This request allegedly created an undue advantage for 20 candidates, including the daughter of a colleague of the general. Vlad highlighted the negative impact of the accusations on the image of the Romanian Army and public trust in the institution.
