Following drilling for a water well in Sântimreu, a gas accumulation was discovered at over 120 meters deep. ISU Bihor intervened with specialized teams to assess the risks, noting that, for now, the concentrations of methane and sulfur are low, but they can vary depending on weather conditions. Immediate measures included the temporary relocation of the owners and the establishment of a safety perimeter of 200 square meters, with warnings regarding flammability risks.
The prefect of Bihor County convened a meeting of the County Emergency Situations Committee to discuss the incident, which was reported by the Sălard Town Hall. Authorities emphasized the need to comply with legal norms in drilling operations, considering similar previous incidents. In August, a similar incident in Ialomița led to the evacuation of 270 people and access restrictions.
