The analysis conducted by Dumitru Chisăliță, president of the Intelligent Energy Association, highlights the alarming increase in explosions caused by gas leaks in Romania, where nearly 50% of homes have not had inspections performed on their gas installations. In 2011, the obligation for gas distributors to carry out periodic checks was removed, and these services were outsourced to authorized companies, which led to a decrease in responsibility and a proliferation of inexperienced firms.

The lack of technical culture among consumers and the desire to save money have led to the use of improvised installations, increasing risks. Additionally, aging infrastructure and poorly executed construction work contribute to the deterioration of underground installations. Chisăliță proposes a reorganization of distribution and inspection activities to improve public safety and prevent future tragedies.
