Over 100,000 residents of the city of Galați have been left without water at their taps until Thursday morning, due to essential works for ensuring the water supply of the municipality, even in conditions of extreme drought. The local water supply operator, Apă Canal S.A., announced that interventions are underway to replace the water from the Danube with deep water, considering that the river's water intake is operating below capacity due to the drought.

Local authorities emphasize that this intervention is strategic for the continuity of the water supply, given that the Danube has a level of 18 centimeters, just one centimeter above the historical level.

The shutdown of the Water Treatment and Pumping Station has led to the cessation of drinking water supply for half of the city, but authorities assure that citizens have access to water from cisterns placed in various areas.
