Four people, including a man who claimed to be a priest, were detained by prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office next to the Court of Sector 6, being accused of fraud in the field of funeral services. They, authorized by the Cemetery Administration, approached elderly individuals, offering them grave maintenance services, but at exaggerated prices, using false documents.
The criminal activity took place over the course of a year, with the total damage exceeding 850,000 lei. The defendants were detained following eight searches, including at Bellu Cemetery, where only false documents were found.
One of the defendants dressed in a cassock to gain the trust of the victims, and some individuals were convinced to lend them large sums of money, without ever returning them. Now, they are being taken to court with a proposal for preventive arrest or house arrest.
