Alexandru Bălan, 47 years old, is being investigated for treason, being accused of transmitting state secrets to KGB officers from Belarus during meetings held in Budapest. Investigators claim that, between 2024 and 2025, Bălan had connections with agents of the Belarusian secret services, endangering the national security of Romania. The investigation is coordinated by EUROJUST and involves the collaboration of prosecutors and intelligence services from Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Moldova.
