The Belgian company FN Herstal has announced the establishment of FN Defense Romania, preparing the pre-authorization procedures for the production of weapons on the territory of Romania. This initiative comes in the context of the tender for equipping the Romanian Army with individual equipment compliant with NATO standards, according to the SAFE program, which requires a significant portion of production to be local.

FN Herstal aims to provide a complete and sovereign industrial solution for equipping the Romanian Armed Forces and public order structures. The company has initiated steps to identify an industrial site, select Romanian subcontractors, and place pilot orders with them. FN Herstal intends to invest tens of millions of euros in Romania, with the goal of launching production in a short timeframe, in the event that it is selected as a supplier by the Romanian state.
