Fire at a student dormitory in Cluj-Napoca: Nearly 200 students self-evacuated. Firefighters found 13 others still in their rooms

A fire broke out on Saturday night into Sunday in a room in Dormitory 17 of the “Hașdeu” student complex in Cluj-Napoca, where approximately 200 students were housed. The fire was noticed after midnight, and the fire alarms alerted the people inside the building.

Firefighters intervened to put out the flames and checked the dormitory rooms. During the operations, they found 13 students, whom they evacuated. Other residents managed to get out on their own before the crews arrived.

Dense smoke quickly spread through the building, and three students needed oxygen, which was provided by the medical crews. No casualties were reported, as many students had left for the weekend before the start of the academic year.

Witnesses said they were awakened by the alarms, the smell of smoke, and the commotion in the hallways.

Firefighters and police officers will continue investigations at the scene to establish the cause of the fire and the circumstances in which it occurred.
