Farmers in Romania are protesting on Thursday in front of the ANSVSA headquarters in Bucharest, dissatisfied with the ban on the export of sheep and goats, a measure that severely affects their businesses.

They report losses of hundreds of millions of euros and demand explanations from the authorities, emphasizing that they have reached the brink of bankruptcy.

The protest takes place in the context of a health crisis caused by the small ruminant plague and sheep pox, and the European Commission has completely banned exports until December 31, 2026, following an outbreak discovered in Mureș County.

Farmers are calling for the urgent unblocking of exports, fair compensation for the damages suffered, and the resignation of the ANSVSA leadership.

Additionally, ANSVSA announced a vaccination plan for 1.2 million sheep and goats, but many farmers refuse this solution, warning that the authorities' delays will destroy Romanian sheep farming.

Protest schedule:

10:00 – 13:00: Approximately 1,500 farmers will protest in front of the ANSVSA headquarters;

13:00 – 14:00: The protest moves to the Government. Route: Piața Presei Libere – Șoseaua București-Ploiești – Bulevardul Regele Mihai I – Arcul de Triumf – Șoseaua Pavel D. Kiseleff – Piața Victoriei;

10:00 – 17:00: Approximately 5,000 participants will protest in Piața Victoriei, in front of the Romanian Government headquarters;

17:00: Start of the dispersal of participants.
