Rareș Hopincă, the mayor of Sector 2, announced on Facebook that he has taken over the project for the extension of the M2 subway line, the Pipera-Petricani section, from Metrorex and the Ministry of Transport. Yesterday, the funding application for the preparation of the necessary technical-economic documentation was submitted under the Transport Program 2021-2027. The project, with a total value of 7.4 million lei, will be financed from the Cohesion Fund and aims to improve public transport and reduce road traffic in the northern area of Sector 2.

The extension will add approximately 1.6 kilometers of double track along Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard and Petricani Street, including two modern subway stations that will interconnect with surface transport. This strategic investment responds to the rapid growth of the Pipera-Tunari area, an important urban and economic development hub in Bucharest and Ilfov. Hopincă thanked the City Hall team for their efforts and promised to keep the public informed about the project's progress.
